Problem installing plug-in for HPLaserJet M1132

Asked by Nick Crosby

I have downloaded and installed HPLIP 3.12.10 and installed the plug-in. But when running the installer, it is unable to find the printer and communicate with it. Also get a 5012 error.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04

Going a bit nuts googling and trying all the steps to solve this, without success. Ran 'hp-check -t'
Says I have installed the plug in but

error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12): hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1132_MFP?serial=000000000QH4AV8ESI1c
error: Device not found
error: Communication status: Failed

All help very very welcome
Thanks in advance

Hi Nick,

Can you please try the following steps.
1)Run 'lsusb'
(It will display one device as Hewlett-Packard.)
        e.g. Bus 001 Device 002: ID 03f0:002a Hewlett-Packard

2) Now Run in teminal : $ lsusb -d 03f0:002a -v
If bNumInterfaces = 1, then smart install feature has been enabled. If this is enabled, your device will be detected as CDRom from where you can install the software on windows. Unfortunately we don't support this feature in Linux as of now. If you disable this feature on device, your device will be detected in Linux. To disable this you should have a windows machine and can follow the below steps.
1. Download the Full Driver for Windows from www.hp.com
2. Run the exe, extract it to a folder.
3. Go to extracted folder/UTIL directory
4. Connect your device.
5. Run SIUtility.exe and follow the wizard to disable the feature.

Thanks and Regards,
Srikanth Lokare

Dear Srikanth

Thank you for your proposed solution and the speed of response.

The snag is I do not have a working version of Microsoft Windows on which to extract! I run Linux because my Windows is defective and my other laptop runs Mac OS 10.6.8

I guess I am snookered with this set-up? Any thoughts welcome!
Thanks in advance
Nick
