Xsane Can't find scanner HP 4620 Office Jet

Asked by David Paulson

I open Xsane and get the error message "Failed to create file: Permission denied" . I then close the error box out and Xsane tries to find my scanner but can't.

I am runing Linux Mint 13 "KDE" Maya

I tried to use the hp-setup to set my printer up but it failed every time to see my device connected to the usb port. I had to use the printer setup in the system settings to get the printer to work and it will work over the network and usb. Something is "broken" some where I need help hunting it down.

I ran sudo hp-check -r and this what I got:

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.12.2)
Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.3

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP
supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to
successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package
(.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies
installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both
of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Hi,

Thanks for reporting the issue in HPLIP. To help us understand and analyze the issue please follow following things.
=> Download and install the latest HPLIP release from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html (automatic) or http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html (manual if automatic does not work)

=> Reconfigure print queue with the commands in the terminal mentioned below.
       => system-config-printer (remove all print queues)
      => su -c "hp-plugin" (This will download right plugin)
      => hp-check --fix
       => hp-setup (It should not be run in a root mode. This command is adding print queue, make sure you select ppd name having "-ps" or "hpcups" substring)
=>Try printing/scanning now.

If problem does not get solved then please run following command to capture the logs and send the logs.

$su -c "hp-logcapture"

**Please use "Create a bug report" to attach the logs as "Ask a Question" does not provide the file attachment option
