dependency issue installing hplip on ubuntu server 11

Asked by Eduardo ZImmermann

libcups-dev dependency issue; installation states that it does not exist, but I have installed the latest and greatest version, which sports a different name.

Linux version 3.0.0-19-server (buildd@yellow) (gcc version 4.6.1 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.1-9ubuntu3) ) #33-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 19 20:32:48 UTC 2012

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper
dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied
tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time
dependencies).

Hi Eduardo ZImmermann,

This installer basically checks for following.
1) /usr/include/cups/cups.h file.
2) /usr/bin/lpr executable.

If any of these files are not present, Please install "libcups2-dev cups-bsd cups-client" packages.

You can install HPLIP-3.12.6 automatically as mentioned in http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html site.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath
