HP Officejet PRO K5400dn with all functions for linux Suse 10.3?

Asked by Douglas Guse

I would like to buy an HP Officejet PRO K5400dn for my wife and want to be sure that she can use all the functions with her Suse 10.3. I want to connect it to a Router (Telekom Speedport W900V). Would be great if I could use the printer as well with my Mac OS X 10.5.1.

I read that this printer is supported by linux, but don't know enough about it to be sure, that everything will work.

Would be very helpful if someone with experience could ensure me before I buy the printer.

Many Thanks!

Douglas

I don't know if opensuse has CUPS as the default printer manager, but i know that apple and ubuntu do. Because of that, it is very probable that a printer working on a Mac will work on Linux. Take a look at the CUPS project site to find out more: http://www.cups.org/

Hi Kemel,

thanks for your help. I thought as well that the Mac wouldn't be a problem but in the end the printer seems to work well with linux (with the latest HPLIP driver) and the HP-installation cd for my new iMac doesn't run. It seems that other owners of that printer have got the same problem. So we have to wait for new drivers from HP for the printer to make him work with Mac OS X 10.5.1.

Anyway, many thanks for your help and the main thing is: My wife has got a new printer that works fine.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Douglas
