HPLIP

How do I install hplip and which file do I use?

I am new to Linux.
I have a PSC-1315 scanner/copier/printer.
I am using Linux Mint on a Gateway MX8711 laptop.
I downloaded the 2 files for hplip.
How do I install them?
Do I install both? If so, in which order?

ps: prior to this, i followed the "add a printer" which installed (i think hpjis? -but not sure)
and the printer & copier will work -however it prints in red(?) instead of black.

Please follow the directions here:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/index.html

Not that Linux Mint is an Ubuntu based distro. So follow the directions for Ubuntu as needed.
