HP Installation under OpenSUSE 12.1: error: "The printer you are trying to setup requires a binary driver"

Asked by Michele C.

Hi all,

I installed our HP LaserJet Pro 300 color MFP M375nw on several OpenSUSE 11.4 until few months ago.

Today I can't install it both on 11.4 and 12.1.

My procedure was:
- using Yast, delete all hplip* installed packages
- add the repository: (with the proper openSUSE_XX.X path)
zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_12.1/ Printing
- install manually the hplip packages:
rpm -i http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_12.1/x86_64/hplip-3.12.4-50.1.x86_64.rpm http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_12.1/x86_64/hplip-hpijs-3.12.4-50.1.x86_64.rpm http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_12.1/x86_64/hplip-sane-3.12.4-50.1.x86_64.rpm
- intall the printer using hp-setup

Now, using the procedure listed above, I get a pop-up window that says

"Plug-in installation successful."

but when I press Ok another pop-up says

"The printer you are trying to setup requires a binary driver plug-in and it failed to install.
Please check your internet connection and try again.
Visit http://hplipopensource.com for more infomation."

Here below I listed the the logs of the two commands
hp-setup -g
hp-check -t

Thank you very much in advance for any help or advice!

Michele C.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).
