Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon support. C310

Asked by Ian M. Stewart

I have followed the instructions for manual installation on Linux Mint using hplip-3.12.4.tar.gz, for my new installation of Linux Mint 13 (Maya) with the cinnamon desktop. This resulted in the removal of many of the software packages I had already just installed, including Google Earth, KeepassX and I don't know what else. The installation concluded with the need to connect by USB lead, which I have never needed to do before, and this entailed bringing the printer into the same room as the desktop pc.

The printer shows on the Mint system, but no printing is possible, although the printer still works from other computers on the wireless network. Also, there is no interface to the printer's controls. The test page shows as "Held" and the system says at intervals that it has been successfully printed, although there is no output.

I'll now have to re-install Linux Mint, and the missing packages.

Can you advise if there will be a solution for Linux Mint 13 Maya? I had successfully installed for Ubunty 12.04 Precise in native format, as Xubuntu and as Lubuntu.
Thanks, Ian

Sorry to raise a hare. I have installed several different versions of Ubuntu over the last couple of weeks, and always (ALWAYS!) had to install the recent hplip to make the printer work. I incorrectly assumed that Linux Mint would be the same, and it totally broke the system.
I have now done a re-install from the same DVD, and find that Version: 3.12.2-1ubuntu3 of hplip is pre-installed, and it works fine for my printer with no setup required.
