issue printing 4x6 on a C3180 in gimp

Asked by leed

Hello all

I'm trying to set up a HP photosmart C3180 to print to 4x6 photo paper in the gimp, I'm running ubuntu 7.04 and have chosen the P1000 when I set up the printer in the gimp as that seems to closest one, I've also tried setting it up as a postscript printer but have the same prob.

When I try and print it sucks the paper in then errors with "out of paper" If I then clear the error on the top panel it ejects the first sheet (with nothing printed on) sucks up the second sheet and prints the image offset (I only get about two thirds of the image) It then just sits there flashing the on/off button, which is cleared when you send the next print to it.

Anyone got any ideas

Cheers for any help.

Lee

Ps To my chagrin it works perfectly in windows :(

What version of GIMP are you using? I think the version in Ubuntu 7.04 may be an older version of GIMP. You could try upgrading gimp and gutenprint. You should be able to select the printer queue in the newer versions which will let HPLIP handle the printing functions. In the older version of gimp printing is handled completely by gimp-print (gutenprint) and we didn't have any process or control over the process. If you upgrade you should be able to configure the tray's using the ubuntu printer configuration utility and print using the printer queue in gimp and it should print correctly. I verified this works. In theory you should be able to configure the settings using the hp-toolbox but I am having difficulty getting that to work correctly and I'll be looking into that more.

Hope this helps.
