Destructive "Shopping assistance" on www.hp.com

Asked by Johannes Meixner

This is no question but an information
about destructive user experience
regarding Linux support for HP devices
provided by www.hp.com

Go to
http://www.hp.com/
and at "Shop for Home & Home Office products"
select [Printers & All-in-Ones]
which leads to a new page.
There at "Shopping assistance"
select [Help me choose]
and play around with this poor tool
(it is even destructive regarding Linux).

Results:
In many cases there is only a selection
for Windows and Mac but none for Linux.
When there is a selection for Linux,
often no devices are found.
When there are devices found,
often only very few are found.

I think you should contact those at HP
who published such a poor "Shopping assistance"
and make them aware of
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/

Perhaps the easiest solution to quickly stop the
current nonsense is to let the "Shopping assistance"
show "Linux" in any case and if it is selected
just forward the user to
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/index.html

Even if the latter is only available in English
it is much better than the current descructive
user information about "no Linux support".
