Is printer-initiated scanning planned?

Asked by Twisted Lucidity

Having just purchased an HP printer, I now realise that "Scan to PC" does not mean what I thought it meant ("Scan to PC" is only supported for "Direct Send").
Scanning from my non-DS printer to Windows/OSX work, are there any plans to offer this with GNU/Linux in the future?

Please visit http://hplipopensource.com/node/334 for 'Scan to PC' functionality.

You can install hplip driver from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html and do scanning from PC too.

Thanks for the prompt response.

Unfortunately not all printers support "Digital Filing" (certainly not the 6500a I purchased).
I already have HPLIP installed (3.11.5) and scan, fax etc all seem to be working from the PC.

I was just wondering if there were plans to provide the client tools on GNU/Linux so that "scan to PC" (i.e. printer-initiated) works like it does with Windows/OSX? If the answer is "No" due to resources or some technical impediment, then that is the answer.

Of course, I'd prefer the answer "Yes". :-)

"Scan to PC" is not supported. We don't have any plan in near future to support it.
