Sorry HPLIP does not support this functionality. However there are ways to share a printer on linux. You could perhaps try one of these search suggestions:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=com.ubuntu%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=X18&q=print+server+red+hat&btnG=Search

or

http://www.google.com/search?q=share+printer+using+red+hat&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=com.ubuntu:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Thanks for your support of hplip.

That is not excatly true. I had a Deskjet890c hooked up to a WinXP computer (which in itself is a no-no since the old 890c has no official driver for XP) and it was easily shared with an Ubuntu (6.06) computer with HPLIP 2.7.12 on a Lan network. I recently bought a Photosmart c4280 printer for the XP and upgraded HPLIP on Ubuntu to 2.8.2. What a mess. Ubuntu now can't even find the printer on the network (connected ot the XP) although I can still share files and what not as before. The installation is correct because I can use the printer on the Ubuntu computer if I physically connect the two. Since the printer can be shared accross other Windows machines, I wish HP would let customers know that it is not the case when trying to share printers across different platforms. Anyway, I'm still hopeful and trying to find a solution because a have no desire to own 2 printers.

Can you help with this problem?
