font selection hp lj8100

Asked by Kevin Collins

How can I select a font for printing from red hat enterprise linux 5 to an hp LaserJet 8100 printer?

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 1.6.7)
Device Information Utility ver. 3.4

hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_8100_Series?ip=nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn (ip address changed)

There does not seem to be a setting or option withing the printer configuration for font selection.

Thanks,

Ghostscript (gs) handles all the font processing. You could try a search such as:

http://www.google.com/search?q=ghostscript+font&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=com.ubuntu:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

and you may find some information for how to print a specific font using ghostscript. HPLIP uses gs for this functionality.

Hope this helps,

Aaron,

Thanks for your quick reply. I am new to red hat and may not have stated my question clearly. I would like to have jobs sent to the printer use a certain font as it's default so that without user intervention the print queue setup would send that font. Would I use a gs command in a driver file or something?

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

Sorry I don't think I'm exactly clear on what you are seeking. You want -everything- printed no matter from what printed in a specific font? Usually the application sets the font. Honestly I'm not sure how you would go about setting a system wide printing font. Although it may be a setting in gs or perhaps even cups..

Either way this wouldn't be done with HPLIP.
