HP F2180 - Linux Foundation Open Printing reports not working

Asked by William Pugsley

HPLIP

I am A bit of a newbie so have possibly misunderstood this but I am confused.

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 and have just bought a new HP Deskjet F2180 printer that I have not yet taken out of the box as I am not sure it will work with my computer.

You report the Deskjet F2180 as supported and yet on the Linux Foundation Open Printing website it states this printer does not work with Linux. http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-Deskjet_F2180

Which is true?

I suspect that you probably both are but just I do not understand this totally.

As per our support document at:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/combined.html

The Deskjet F2180 All-in-One is supported by HPLIP as of HPLIP 1.7.4 with Printing and Scanning support.

The information in our system is up to date as of the latest release of HPLIP.

We can't speak for linuxprinting.org as this is maintained by a different group. Although it's important to note that the openprinting.org entry for the FeskJet F2180 was user submitted and without a date stamp on the entry I can't say for sure when it was submitted. However the printer should work without any problems with HPLIP.

Hope this helps.
