photosmart b8550 paper type or size incorrect

Asked by Bob McGowan

I got the b8550 printer for its support of panoramic printing up to 44 inches.

I was using Ubuntu and have printed various width prints at 44 inch length without any problems.

I recently switched to Arch linux, due to needing newer versions of digikam, not available in Ubuntu. So I have destroyed the old installation and have no way to determine which version of HPLIP was in use. I believe the Ubuntu I was using was either 9.10 or 10.4, but again, I have no way to know for sure.

HPLIP under Arch Linux is at version 3.11.12 and I can no longer print panoramas. Printing of normal sizes works fine. When I try, the print head scans back and forth, then the printer reports "paper type or size incorrect" and tells me to press 'OK' to cancel the job.

Note the paper in use is from a large roll of paper (HP Universal High-gloss Photo Paper-610 mm x 30.5 m (24 in x 100 ft) / Q1426A), which does not have any identifying marks on the back, such as the pre-sized papers I'm using do.

Thanks, and my apologies for being so long getting back to you.

Removing and recreating the printer queue using the hp-setup solved the problem.
