error 100 at dependency and conflict resolution

Asked by janneman

at installing, I get error 100:

All details should be in the log below. Tried to resolve the dependencies but failed. The good thing is that the printer L7680 prints and scans!

What distro are you using?

Can you run:

sudo apt-get install --yes --force-yes build-essential build-essential libcupsys2-dev cupsys-bsd libusb-dev libtool libjpeg62-dev openssl libsnmp9-dev python-reportlab libsane-dev python-imaging libsane

and post the error?

When I try a manual installation I also run into the same problem with libc6-dev, etc, see below. I have a original 7.10 + kubuntu
Trying to install libc6 gives: The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libc6-dev: Depends: libc6 (= 2.6.1-1ubuntu9) but 2.6.1-1ubuntu10 is to be installed. Schould I force it?????

j@jv-desktop:~/003/hp/printer/hplip-2.7.10$ sudo apt-get install libcupsys2 libcupsys2-dev build-essential python-dev python-dev python gs-esp libusb-dev xsane libsane python-reportlab python-qt3 libsnmp9-dev openssl libjpeg62-dev libsane-dev libtool python-imaging

libcupsys2 is already the newest version.
python is already the newest version.
xsane is already the newest version.
libsane is already the newest version.
python-qt3 is already the newest version.
python-qt3 set to manual installed.
Note, selecting libsnmp-dev instead of libsnmp9-dev
openssl is already the newest version.
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

This is odd because ubuntu 7.10 has been tested very extensively.

Can you run

sudo apt-get install build-essential

and any errors.

Also can you run:

cat /etc/apt/source.list

and post that?

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Sorry that was supposed to be;

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

My bad.

Although if 'sudo apt-get install build-essential' doesn't work correctly you have a system problem with apt. You may want to post the to ubuntuforums.org for more assistance.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

I'm having the same problem - trying to install a HP C7280.. anyone had any luck with this printer?

Well I now have it installed okay after just throwing at it every remotely related package I could find in Synaptic that it was complaining about except libsnmp-devel which I still can't find and therefore now has disabled the network 'option'. However, I *have* now printed by USB okay so it definitely works - using 'C7200 Series' configuration. Now just to work out how to get networking enabled.

Impressed though!

Even though, yes, this is typical Linux being difficult to set up and configure, from what I hear Windows software users have not been having a much greater time (not the fault of HP I believe) and in fact once the Linux software is configured, like Linux in general, will work *much* better without the bloat and clutter. I'm keen to keep working through and get this working.

If you install libsnmp-dev it should work...i just checked synaptic and it's there, you have to enable the multiverse and universe repos however.

Hope this helps.

Did a reinstall of Ubuntu 7.10 + kubuntu desktop and then installed it OK using the manual installation.
