unwanted banner page

Asked by Brian Cooper

I am on Ubuntu 11.10
I have 2 printers: HP1005 and Photosmart D5460 and have the same problem with both.
When I call for a print it first prints a Banner Page with SECRET top and bottom.
If I go to Device Manager then Settings then Miscellaneous I find:
 "Pretty Print" text.. is set to OFF
 Banner Page is on Start Banner Page OFF and Finish is on Banner Page OFF.
I have removed HPLIP and reinstalled without success.
My HPLIP is 3.11.10

Hi Brain Cooper,

Can you please follow below steps to disable banner page.

1) run "hp-printsettings" command in terminal. can see printer setting UI.
go to "Miscellaneous " tab and set "Pritty print" option as "OFF"
set "No Banner Pages" values to "No Banner Page" for both start and end. and close UI.

P.s: Don't press "Default" button after selecting options. If you press "Default" button, then resets to value.

2) check CUPS options.
 --> open "http://localhost:631/printers/" in browser.
--> select the printer -->"Maintains" and "Set As Default Options" --> "Banner"
--> set both "starting Banner" and "Ending Banner" to "None"
--> click "set Default Options"

3) check if any application print options cover page option is enabled.

If you are still facing, please let me know is this issue from all applications or any specific application.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

This is your third point:
"3) check if any application print options cover page option is enabled".
I am sorry but I do not understand this.
Please explain.

Hi Brain Cooper,

Sorry for late response. What I mean was if Banner page option is enabled from application, disable it.

E.g.
open PDF file. press "print or ctl+p". check "Add Cover page" option under "Job" tab.

Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath
