problem with hplip each time I restart

Asked by John Hosszu

Hi,

i was googling for some help with an issue, and came across this page:

http://<email address hidden>/msg04236.html

i am having the same problem - printer status says "Printing: open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds...". it does print however - it just takes a few minutes to reach the printer for some reason.. quite annoying, but at least it works eventually. did you manage to fix the original poster's problem? did they even get back to you with the info you requested?

if not, could i provide you with the info, so you can help me instead? :)

i'm using an hp photosmart d7160 on debian testing, any more info required, please ask.

cheers, niall chapman.

hi, sorry took a while to reply - REALLY busy with work...

i installed the 2.7.7 tarball. ddont know why, but i didnt even realise there was a package in the debian repos. maybe i would have better luck with that version? although it's quite a bit older than newest available the tarball version.

hi, just an update - i have installed hplip from the debian repository, and it works fine now :)

can't remember why i initially installed it from the .run file, but i am no longer having any problems since installing the .deb file from the repo.

thanks :)
