Location of HP-LIP file

Asked by Mike Roussin

To whom it concerns:

What is the recommended place for me to put the hplip-3.11.10 file that is created during installation? It looks like it has a lot of stuff that I might need. I want to know before I discard it.

Thanks.

Hello Mike,

Thanks for reporting the issue. Assuming you have installed HPLIP using hplip-3.x.x.run file. In that case One more directory (hplip-3.x.x) gets created in the same location where hplip-3.x.x.run file is present. Actually hplip-3.x.x directory is the decompressed version of hplip.3.x.x.run file and is needed to build and install HPLIP on that machine. Once hplip is installed, both hplip-3.x.x.run and hplip-3.x.x are not needed. They can be put anywhere or even deleted. HPLIP package files will be installed automatically during build and install time to some directories like /usr/share, /usr/lib, /etc etc.

Thanks,
Sanjay
