image printing contrast is too dark

Asked by Mark Fairbairn

Using Opensuse 11.4 64bit with a HP B110a printer
HPLIP 3.11.5-1.5.1

When printing images onto photo paper (or even plain paper) they come out very dark.
I have tried making changes in hp-toolbox but changing the settings here seems to have no effect.

If I print from within windows7 on the same printer images look as they should.

Help please???

I should also add that if I change from hplip to hpijs then brightness and contrast are perfect - but of course hpijs is impractical for printing images

Hi,

Can you please try downloading and installing the latest HPLIP (3.11.10) release. You can download the same from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html. Please let us know, if the problem still persists with the latest.

Thanks for using HPLIP.

Thanks and Regards,
Srikanth Lokare

FYI:

The latest HPLIP 3.11.10 release as ready-made RPMs for
various openSUSE and Suse Linux Enterprise versions
is also available via the "Printing" project in the openSUSE
build service for 32-bit i586 and 64-bit x86_64 architecture.

E.g. from this direct URL:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_11.4/
as packages "hplip", "hplip-hpijs", and "hplip-sane".

when doing this part . . .
  => cd /tmp
       => rm *.out
       => rm *.bmp
       => hp-check -t > /tmp/hpcheck.log

I received the following

thinkpad:/tmp # rm *.out
rm: cannot remove `*.out': No such file or directory
thinkpad:/tmp # rm *.bmp
rm: cannot remove `*.bmp': No such file or directory
thinkpad:/tmp # hp-check -t > /tmp/hpcheck.log
