Tray selection using RAW Postscript code on HP P2015dn

Asked by Buddy Furgerson

We recently purchased five HP P2015dn printers to use in our field offices. The printers are networked to a Linux (Qnx) server through a Novell Network and a Windows XP Professional workstation. With these printers we purchased five add-on paper trays. We find that in using these printers to print from RAW Postscript files, the printers work fine to print out the documents, but the tray selection code sequences embedded in the RAW code do not seem to be supported. We are trying to print the first copy from tray 2 (letter, colored) and the second and third copies from tray 3 (letter, plain). The printer prints all copies from tray 3. When the same job is sent to our HP 4240dn it prints from the two different trays as needed.

We have discussed this with chat support personnel. They advised that HP printers do not support Linux operating systems. I believe the RAW Postcript files being sent are the same for Linux or Windows. It looks like there just may be a tray selection issue with the P2015dn when using embedded code sequences in RAW code.

Any ideas for a fix would be appreciated as we now have five printers and trays that can't be used for their intended purpose.

Thanks,

Buddy,

The HP LaserJet P2015dn is support by HPLIP and provides access to the following trays:

Default
PhotoTray
Upper
Lower
CDDVDTray
Envelope
LargeCapacity

I believe that LargeCapacity tray will probably be the extra tray that you added to the printer. Although we do support many distros of Linux we have not tested Qnx, which seems to be based on an embedded linux server. In theory HPLIP should compile and run on Qnx although you may want to do the hpijs install only--information is available here and under the section "HPIJS Portability Reference".

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/tech_docs/tarball_install.html

If you need the other features provided by HPLIP you'll need to install all of the requirements a list of which are is available here:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/system_requirements.html

Hope this helps.

You can verify that the printer picks paper from different trays from Windows printer driver. If that is not
working correctly, you can then contact HP support. If that is working correctly, you will have to check the
PS data you are sending to the printer and make sure it agrees with what the Windows driver is doing.
Hope this helps.
