HPLIP Installation Wizard has no Ubuntu 11.10 or Laserjet 5 listed

Asked by john kelly

I have tried to install HPLIP through the Installation Wizard - but NO Ubuntu 11.10 OR Laserjet 5 (under Ubuntu 11.04) is listed.
I can't print from my LaserJet 5 through Ubuntu 11.10.

Hi John,

Please download and install the latest HPLIP (3.11.10) release. You can download the same from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html. Connect the printer via USB (Parallel port support has been made passive). Run "hp-setup" from the terminal and complete the setup. Once setup is complete, you can print.

Let us know if you have any issue.

Thanks for using HPLIP.

Thanks and Regards,
Srikanth Lokare

I notice this is now 3.11.12 for Ubuntu 11.10 but still no option in Step 1 of the installation wizard.

Which approach should I take as 3.11.10 has never really worked for me?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Ian

Hi Ian,

The latest version of HPLIP is 3.11.12 now. And it supports laserjet 5. You can follow the installation procedure mentioned in the link http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html.

To check whether laserjet 5 is listed or not, you can click on "Install Wizard" or go through the link http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install_wizard/index.html.

Hope it will solve your query.

Thanks,
Sarbeswar Meher

Thanks Sarbeswar. I actually have a P1005 but participated in this thread because of the 11.10 option missing from the wizard's drop down list for Ubuntu.

I have installed 3.11.10 but now have the same problem that I've always had with previous versions in that documents such as printouts from Libreoffice and tests work initially, but then after trying to print out from a website, the printer fails to print and then never works again without a re-install.

I think I'm going to have to raise a bug report with some verbose log information.

Regards

Ian

Sorry, above should read, "I have installed 3.11.12 but now....." Getting my Ubuntu distros mixed up with my HPLIP versions.

Can you help with this problem?
