m1522nf mfp fax not showing on the HP device manager

Asked by porcingus

Hi everyone.
I installed the HPLIP following this guide (http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html) but the fax option in the HP device manager is not showing and cannot send/receive faxes from the desktop.
If you need any more info please do let me know.
Thanks

Use "hp-sendfax" command in the terminal.
If it doesn't work type hp-check on the terminal and paste the ouput here.

By using the hp-sendfax i got the following output:

ubuntu@ubuntu-PN136AA-ABZ-a710-it:~$ hp-sendfax

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.11.10)
PC Sendfax Utility ver. 9.0

Copyright (c) 2001-9 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP

This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it
under certain conditions. See COPYING file for more details.

error: No installed fax devices found. Please setup a fax device and try again (try using 'hp-setup'). Click OK to exit.

by running hp-check i got this:

buntu@ubuntu-PN136AA-ABZ-a710-it:~$ hp-check

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.11.10)
Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.3

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log

Initializing. Please wait...

What?

I own on of this printer and I have been able to use the fax from the PC from years. But hp-setup no does not detect the fax. It seems that fax support for this printer has been "dropped". Please, could you clarify that?

Try setting fax-type = 4 in /usr/share/hplip/data/models.dat file in the section [hp_laserjet_m1522nf_mfp] and try running command hp-setup to setup the fax queue and check if this option is working for you.
