HP Color Laserjet 2605dn says it is out of paper and asks for letter paper.

Asked by Alan Ford

I have managed to load the driver for my HP color laserjet 2605dn. But when it try to print it tells me that it is out of paper and asks for Letter Paper in Tray 2. It is loaded with A4 paper.
The printer is connected via a 4 port router. There is another computer connected that is running Windows XP. This machine is printing properly. I presume that I need to alter setting somewhere but I have been unable to find where.
Can someone please help a complete newcomer to Linux. (Having tried Vista I decided that I didn't like the direction that Microsoft is heading at all so here I am)

Alan,

Run (in terminal); hp-toolbox
Click; Print Settings
and make sure that the page size is set correctly.

Hope this helps!

No problem, it's very easy. :)

Click;
Applications -> Accessories -> HP Device Manager

Then click 'Print Settings' and look in the section that says page size.

If you don't see HP Device Manager click;
Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal
Type hp-toolbox, then press enter to run the toolbox.

In theory you should have the HP Device Manager however.

Hope this helps.

I had managed to find the HP Device Manager It was the bit about running it in terminal that had me confused but I think think that I am getting that sussed.
Print settings says media size A4 but it is still telling me that it is empty and asking for letter paper.
That is what is confusing me, there must be somewhere else that needs changing as well but I can't find it!

Just to be clear--is the PRINTER asking for Letter? Or something else?

I was getting a message on the Printer asking for paper and in toolbox there was a message saying it was out of paper even though my other computer printed ok. But I have just tried another test page and it has printed ok so I opened a spreadsheet and that also printed. These are the first documents thtat I have managed to get to print.
I don't understand what as happened as i have not changed anything that I know of.
Thanks for your patience.

As I said i am completely new to Ubuntu, if you know of a good book to help me it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again

Alan
