Photosmart C5280 All-in-One prints too thick

Asked by Sophie Young

My Photosmart C5280 All-in-One prints too thick horizontally. It's as if the text/lines are being printed twice, one image slightly to the left of the other. The vertical width is fine. I am using openSuse 11.4. I've tried downloading drivers again and again, with no luck. Even when I print out a test page, it does this.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Thanks for logging the issue here. To help us understand the issue more, please install HPLIP release from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html and then do the following.

1) run "hp-toolbox -g" command in the terminal and then
   a)Remove all the print queues if present, on pressing the minus (-) button. And the re add the printer using Plus (+) button.

=> Please do the following to capture some logs.

    a)Open /etc/cups/cupsd.conf in root mode and replace

        LogLevel warn

          with

       LogLevel debug
       hpLogLevel 15

    b) Open Terminal and run following commands:
       => su
       => /etc/init.d/cups restart
                  or
       => service cups restart
       => cd /tmp
       => rm *.out
       => rm *.bmp
       => hp-check -t > /tmp/hpcheck.log

    c) Try to print the file and then send
          => /var/log/syslog (if present),
          => /var/log/messages (if present),
          => /var/log/cups/error_log
          => /tmp/*.bmp
          => /tmp/*.out
          => /tmp/hpcheck.log

For attaching the logs please create a bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+filebug
 and then attach the logs, because you wont be able to attach them here.

Only FYI:

I don't know how those "too thick horizontally ... text/lines"
actually look like - therefore here only a blind guess:

If text (i.e. characters) look strange when printing in particular
in landscape orientation, you may have a look at
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=692356
"FreeType2 fails in Ghostscript: rotated characters wrong scaled"

Can you help with this problem?
