5940 deskjet won't print black chars if colored font present

I have a 5940 deskjet running under PCLinuxOS2010 (the various HP printing packages have been updated in the last week) and am having problems printing from LibreOffice 3.3.2 - the problem document contains only text, but the initial character of each paragraph is in bold face with its font colour set to red. The page preview in LibreOffice shows all the text as expected, but when the document is printed, only one sheet (it's a four page document) prints, and the only thing printed on the sheet is the red initial of the first paragraph. If I use greyscale only printing (set in the printer options), or black only text (set in LibreOffice) all the text prints, but obviously the colour of the initials is lost.

Any pointers towards solving this problem would be appreciated

Thanks for your prompt reply. I am appending the text output from the hp-check -t command below, but first I am setting out my comments on the various warnings in the output:

cups-devel and cups-image do not appear to be included in the PCLInuxOS distro package list

gcc ( v 4.5.2-4) is installed, but gcc-c++ is not

libjpeg is not present, but libjpeg62 is

libtool is available in the distro but not installed

saned is installed, together with sane-backends

libsane-hpaio is installed

If you need any further information, please let me know.

Hi Peter Nancarrow,

Thank you for providing log. I can see that so many dependencies are missing (i.e. cups related and others), so can you please follow steps to install HPLIP on PCL Linux.

After installation also, If problem still persists, please post again "hp-check -t" output.
