Connetction Problem with DeskJet 2050

Asked by Moritz Aleithe

Hi there,

I recently bought a new Deskjet 2050 to run with my Linux/Windows Computer. The Problem is: HP Device Manager doesn't recognize it, after I connectioned it to my Computer, and want to add it to my printer. There is no Problem with the Photosmart of my Mother, so I thought you could give me a hind why this is?

Thanks,

Moritz.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

You have HPLIP version 3.10.2 as provided by openSUSE 11.3 but
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/deskjet_aio/deskjet_2050_j510_series.html
reads that the "HP Deskjet 2050 j510 All-in-one Printer" requires
a "Minimum HPLIP version 3.10.6" and accordingly "hp-check" reports
"error: Unsupported model: Deskjet_2050_J510_series".

I.e. you must upgrade HPLIP.

Either
from HP via
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html
or
as readymade RPMs from openSUSE (but without official support from SUSE) via
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_11.3/i586/
you may also have a look at
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:How_to_set-up_a_HP_printer
