Scanning from multiple nodes fails

Asked by Alfagulf

I have a HP Laserjet M1212nf connected to my network, after one computer node initiate a successful scan, other computers on the network fail to scan, the Simple scan tries for a while and then displays this error message:
Failed to scan
Unable to connect to scanner

I have to power cycle the printer in order to scan again from other machine.

I have upgraded the printer firmware to the latest, but that did not help.
I am running under Ubuntu 11.04 and the HPLIP is 3.11.1

Is this a known problem?
If so can any one help?
Thanks

Hi,

Can you please try this with latest HPLIP (3.11.5) release. You can download the same from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html. Please let us know if the problem still persists.

Thanks and Regards,
Srikanth Lokare

Hello,

Please delete all the existing queues. Connect once again the printer via network. Run "hp-setup" in each machine. The printer should be in ready state.

Now scan from a machine (let say A) using xsane. When the scanning is over, the machine should display the printer in ready state. Check whether the same printer is in ready state in other machine (let say B). Once it is in ready state, try scanning from B.

Please let us know your observation when you're done with this.

Thanks,
Sarbeswar

Thank Sarbeswar,
After deleting both the printer and FAX queues, I then used hp-setup and recreated the printer without the FAX queue.
It seems to work now, I only have to power cycle the printer once while testing!!

Thank you all very much for your help and assistance.
