HP Laserjet P1102 won't print with the current debian testing

Asked by Bebu

Since two weeks i had the named printer. After i know how to install, it works fine, until one of the last updates ;(
When booting the system i got some errors from udev, to replace sysfs with attr. hp-setup is unable to find my printer device, except i give the bus:device:id directly to the program. But i had the feeling, the computer is unable to connect to the printer. I became the error: "/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed" and the printer is set to inactive. I also got the errorcode 5012- could not connect to device. Is that a error with the udev rules? Ich tried differnt solutions and search with google for many hours to find a possibility. Please can anybody help me?

Here is the output from hp-check -t:

Initializing. Please wait...
//usr/share/themes/Shiki-Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:126: Murrine configuration option "gradients" is no longer supported and will be ignored.

Hi,

Thanks for providing hp-check put-put. There are a lot of dependencies missing on which hplip package depends.

Please follow the instructions provided at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/debian.html to manually install latest hplip-3.11.5 package.

Let us know on the same and post the out-put of "hp-check -t" command after the installation.

Thanks & Regards,
Goutam Kodu

Done.

Only two errors stay here. I think, the problem is somewhere else, cause the actuall hplib source is currently used in testing. Most of the errors befor comes from missing develoment libraries and not from serios errors. Is there a special way to build hplip for debian testing alias Debian 7, if development is done?

Hi,

Thank you for the hp-check out-put. It now shows hplip-3.11.5 is installed with all the dependencies. But the device is getting a communication problem.

Can you try the below steps ands let know if the issue is still same

1. Delete all the print queues that are currently present in "sytem-config-printer".
2. Power-off the printer and power-on it.
3. Check if there is any print queue created in "system-config-printer" after the printer is completely powered on. If created then delete that queue.
4. Manually set -up the printer using the command "hp-setup" .
5. Next run "hp-toolbox" command and check the status of the printer in the status tab.
6.Now print a test page.

Let me know if the print happened successful.

If the issue still exists then post me the out-put of "hp-check -t" command again.

Thanks & Regards,
Goutam Kodu

Thanks for your efforts, but the problem is still here.
hp-toolbox gives me the same error as before, Device communication error, Code 5012. I suspect the problem at dbus, like the printer is registered to the system in a wrong way. Can you say me something about the warnings from udev-rules of the printer, which wants me to replace sysfs with attr? Maybe the error is there?

Here is hp-check -t once again:

So finally i found the solution off this problem: The bad boy is really udev. I think Debian updatet udev to newer version and so the current used udev rules are wrong and the so the hp software can't find the device. I found the file 40-hplip.rules in the source tarball. So i deleted all hp relevanted files from /etc/udev/rules.d/ and copied the founded one inside this order. After a restart off udev with /etc/init.d/udev reload and unplug and onplug the printer everything works fine like before. Now im gonna test this solution for the debian repository pakage and send the solution to the debianproject.

Is there a simple way to build hplip using the new udev rules?

I had the same problem and no luck with driver provided by hplip.
Found out solution here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/58101/how-do-i-install-drivers-for-an-hp-laserjet-pro-p1102w

The answer about installing foo2zjs with version from Maverick worked out:
1. Download foo2zjs driver from Maverick version
2. If not installed, iinstall gdebi
3. Run:
gdebi foo2zjs_*.deb
