cannot install 'cups-ddk'

Driver did install and printer seems to be working OK. Only downside was that it took maybe 4 hours on dialup. Kept me up past 3am! UGH!
During install there was this warning:
warning: Missing OPTIONAL dependency for option 'base': cups-ddk (CUPS DDK - CUPS driver development kit)
warning: This installer cannot install 'cups-ddk' for your distro/OS and/or version.
How will the absence of that component affect performance? What does it relate to?
Printer previously worked flawlessly on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.
Thank you HP for supporting Linux with the HPLIP project.
