Does the latest version HPLIP-3.11.5 install on the 64 bit version of Opensuse 11.4?

Asked by Herbert

If I run
   rpm -qa hplip

I find the following version on my computer

hplip-3.11.1-6.1.x86_64

I am having some problems so I am wondering if the latest version may have a fix. Namely, images are printing so that what would be white backgrounds are printing black. Needless to say, this sucks up a lot of my black ink!

thanks
sincerely
Herb

Hi,

Yes, the latest version of hplip-3.11.5 installs on 64-bit machine. hplip-3.11.5 rpm's are available only for RHEL-6, RHEL-5 and linpus distros. You can download the hplip-3.11.5.run file from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html. It has the support for auto installation in OpenSUSE 11.4. Please install the hplip-3.11.5.run using the command
$sh hplip-3.11.5.run.

Let us know on the same.

Thanks for using HPLIP

Thanks & Regards,

Readymade RPMs for openSUSE 11.4
of hplip-3.11.5 and hplip-hpijs-3.11.5
for 32-bit (i586) and 64-bit (x86_64) architecture
are available from the openSUSE build service
project "Printing" at

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_11.4/

The packages are
 * only for testing
 * without any guarantee or warranty
 * without any support

As an extreme example, this means that if your complete computer
center crashes because of these packages, it is only your problem.
On the other hand this does not mean that those packages are known
to be terrible broken but they are not thoroughly tested so that
any unexpected issue can happen.

I did only a quick test on my openSUSE 11.4 x84_64 system
with a HP LaserJet 1020 which prints the test page o.k. and
with a HP LaserJet 1220 which prints and scans o.k. for me.

Thanks for the quick response and help!

I had a problem with the .run file as it seemed to have trouble resolving the libusb dependencies (even though I have the latest versions installed). I did not dig too deeply. The download from the Printing repository worked. Now, this latest version 3.11.5 still did not fix the issue I have been having, namely, images have been printing reversed (black prints as white, white prints as black). Well, not long after installing 3.11.5 I got a new update for the ghostscript libraries that fixed this very issue! So all is well.

Oh yes, I've got an Officejet 6000 e609a printer.
