Debian 6.0 yet to be supported by installer

Asked by Matthew Gillespie

When building for Debian 6.0 (Squeeze), the auto-installer fails complaining of missing cups-devel packages.
The installer/distros.dat file appears to support Debian 5.0 (Lenny) at the latest.

Are there plans to support 6.0 in the future? Thanks.

Hi Matthew,

The support for Debian 6.0 will be available in the next HPLIP release. Will keep you posted once it is release.

Thanks for using HPLIP.

Thanks and Regards,

Building from the TAR ball also works for Squeeze. Compared to the HPLIP manual for Lenny I had to rename some packages:

$ aptitude install cupsys cupsys-client libcupsys2-dev cupsys-bsd libcupsimage2 libcupsimage2-dev libdbus-1-dev g++ gs-esp libssl-dev libjpeg62-dev libsnmp-dev libc6 libtool libusb-dev make python-imaging policykit policykit-gnome python-qt4 python-qt4-dbus python-dbus python-gobject python-dev python-notify python python-reportlab sane libsane-dev sane-utils xsane
$ ./configure ...
$ make
$ make install
$ ...
