Cant get scanner to work

Asked by brian manser

Hp 2050 all in one. Fedora linux 13 64bit.

I am unable to get xsane to recognise the scanner. have followed the insructions and advice from linux forums without success. Here is the output from HP-Check.

 [brian@mesh-fedora ~]$ hp-check -t

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Hi,
Your HPLIP version is 3.10.9 and this version has issue with scanning on Deskjet 2050. This is already fixed in the latest HPLIP-3.11.1 release.
Please update your version to 3.11.1 for Deskjet 2050 scan to work.

Or as a workaround with HPLIP-3.10.9 itself, try the following steps;

1. open /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat file as root.
2. Edit section "deskjet_1050_j410_series" and set "io-mfp-mode=1" and "scan-type=7" and save the file.
3. Quit hp-toolbox / hp-systray if it is running.
Now your scan should work.

Sorry for all these inconvenience.

Thanks and Regards
Ani Balakrishnan
