HP CP1525nw colour laserjet - is it supported please

Asked by David Brook

So I have HPLIP installed in my SUSE 11.2 system and am attempting to configure my new HP CP1525nw printer as a shared network device.

This specific printer model doesn't show as an available printer choice, and now I look at the HPLIP documentation, it isn't mentioned at all.

HP sold it as Linux compatible - but I am not quite sure what to do from here..

Thanks

David

Hi,

CP1525nw is not supported by HLIP presently. But we have a plan to support this in our next release most probably by March 2011.

I would always suggest you to go to visit http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/index.html, if you wish to have a printer that works on Linux.

Thanks and Regards

Thanks Ari, will look forward to it.

What really, really annoys me is that HP are selling the printer as Linux supported. They will not accept it is mis-selling.

Thanks again for your help

Hi,

I have the same issue as David. I am running Ubuntu 10.04. I checked the above source today and still see no driver. Is there another driver that will at least allow me support for the color feature -- the best I can get is greytone.

Thanks

Hi Jim,

I really should have updated this before now - sorry everyone.

Since the release of HPLIP 3.11.3a, this printer is supported fully.

3.11.3a was not part of SUSE 11.4 so I had to manually download it

It took a bit of hassle to sort out the dependencies - the 'automatic install' method was extremely long winded using SUSE 11.4. I eventually abandoned that approach and preloaded the dependencies using the SUSE 11.3 dependency resolution method from the HPLIP manual installation method.

Having installed 3.11.3a I installed the printer via CUPS (localhost:631) - the option to pick is CP1520 series as I recall - beware, the file is not in a logical sequence - the driver file is in there but well hidden (somewhere in the middle)!!

It now prints like a good one.

Sorry once again for the delay in updating my experiences.

David

FYI:

Readymade RPMs for HPLIP 3.11.3a are available
from the "Printing" project at the openSUSE build service.

E.g. for openSUSE 11.4 go to
http://software.opensuse.org/114/en
enter "hplip" and [Search] for it.

Note the "Printing" project description at
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=Printing
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "Printing" project may contain new, upcoming software.
Therefore the packages in the "Printing" project
might neither be in a stable state nor fit well into
currently installed systems.
Have this in mind if you think about to install
packages from the "Printing" project into your
currently running system.
If you do this, do not use "Factory" if your system
is e.g. openSUSE 11.3.
Use the matching packages for your particular system.
The packages in the "Printing" project are
only for testing, without any guarantee or warranty,
and without any support.
As an extreme example, this means if your complete
computer center crashes because of those packages,
it is only your problem.
On the other hand this does not mean that those packages
are known to be terrible broken but they are not thoroughly
tested so that any unexpected issue can happen.
