HP OfficeJet 6500A e710a

Asked by Herczeg Zsolt

Will hplip support the "HP OfficeJet 6500A e710a" printers?

I'm using hplip 3.10.9 now. I modified the configuration file:
Renamed the section of a printer named officejet_6500_e710n-z to officejet_6500_a-f

Now, the printing works fine, and I can scan if I put the paper on the glass of the scanner, but I can't use the automatic paper dispenser. With it's webpage based scanner it works too, but with hplip, it's just scanning the white screen, and not the papers from the dispenser.

Will it be supported, or is there any workaround for that?

Currently there are no workarounds from HPLIP to support this.
From web interface you can do scan from ADF.
This feature may or may not be supported in future.

Thanks,

Hi,

could you please describe how you exactly edited which configuration file. I've got the same printer and renamed in the models.dat file section officejet_6500_e710n-z to officejet_6500_a-f with no success. The printer still does not appear in the ethernet or usb device list with ./hp-setup ...

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and hplip 3.10.9,
ty.

I did the same.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I've installed the hplip 3.10.9 from it's website. I've replaced the [officejet_6500_e710n-z] line to [officejet_6500_e710a-f] and saved. After that, I simple used the " hp-setup -i "

If that doesen't help you, Please provide the output of " hp-setup -ig "

Your problem isn't with the driver. The "Bonjour" is not working on your network. To add the printer, you have to make "Bonjour" working, or set up a fix IP-adress to your printer.
I suggest you to set up a fixed IP-adress, and then use:

hp-setup IPADRESS

(Use the IP-adress you have setted up, insted of IPADRESS)
You can set up an IP-adress on your printer, in the settingns->network->special->IP-settings->manual menu.

If you need help for setting up a fixed IP please ask. If you have done this, and it's not working, please provide the output of:

hp-setup -g IPADRESS

[solved]

okay, what i've done:

1. re-init the printer.
2. set up a static IP
3. reinstall the hplip 3.10.9 driver
4. configured /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat -> section: [officejet_6500_e710n-z]
 a. rename it to: [officejet_6500_e710a-f]
 b. set: fax-type=1
 c. and: model1=Oficejet 6500A E710a-f
 d. save the file
5. start 'hp-setup -ig IP_ADRESS'
6. done

Printer, fax, flatscanner (simple scan, sane) works fine... now waiting for update with adf support.

Thanks for your help.
