How to scan over the network with a printer/scanner connected directly to LAN?

Asked by Zoubidoo

I have a HP Color LaserJet 2840 All-in-one Printer that has support level "full". The printer is connected to a LAN via the RJ-45 (ethernet) interface and printing works fine. However, I can't see how to user the scanner over the network. Applications like Simple Scan and XSane say no device detected. So how can I use this scanner without resorting to a USB connection?

Any pointers/advice much appreciated.

Platform: Ubuntu 10.04
