Troubles installing hplip-3.10.6

Asked by cbrisse backman

I try to install a Laserjet 6L printer on a SUSE Linux 11 computer by running hplip-3.10.6.
The installation starts fine but at a certain point the program asks for the root password.
After entering that, I got an error message that says the pw is incorrect:
"/error: No output seen in over 300 sec...(Is the CD-ROM/DVD source repository enabled? It shouldn't be!)
Password incorrect,"
I'm absolutely shure the password is correct. What has the CD-ROM/DVD to do with this?
If I try to elevate my rights befor running the installer, the program will not unpack. Any hints appreciated.

Which exact oenSUSE 11.? version do you use?

Why don't you use the hplip packages which are already
provided out-of-the-openSUSE-box for a Laserjet 6L which
requires only a "Minimum HPLIP version 0.9.5" according to
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/laserjet/hp_laserjet_6l.html

You can use pre-bundled RPM Package from Package Manager.

if you wish to install latest version.
Please check weather CD/DVD source is enabled in Package Managers Repository.
Either
1. Please Insert OpenSUSE CD/DVD image in to CD Drive and start HP LIP Installation
2. Disable CD/DVD source in Package Manager Repository and start HP LIP Installation.

Thanks,
