Scanning problem with 1050 Using 3.10.6

Asked by Tim

Hi, I have just purchased a Deskjet 1050 having been assured that it was 100% compatible with Linux desktop.

However, I find that I cannot use the scanner under Ubuntu.

Having hit Goggle, I find that there is in fact a known issue listed for HPLIP 3.10.6 saying "Scan is not supported for HP Deskjet 1050 J410 series"

This is a pretty major issue for me, especially as I chose the Deskjet 1050 over its Epson rival solely because it claimed to have FULL Linux support!

Please can you confirm that there are plans to resolve this issue in the next release of HPLIP and, if at all possible, give some indication as to when that is likely to become available - I really would like to use my 1050 a as scanner as well as a printer!

Regards

Tim Nicholson (A frustrated 1050 owner using Ubuntu 10.4)

We will support scanning of 1050 in future HPLIP release. Please create bug in launch pad for the same.
Thanks for contacting HPLIP

Hi,

For the time being as a work around, please do the following steps;

Open /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat file as root. Go to section [deskjet_1050_j410_series] and set "io-mfp-mode=1" and "scan-type=7" and save the file.

Now your scan should work.

@Dred
I've tried your workaround on Debian/Sid (hplip 3.6.10) and it doesn't fix the problem.

I have exactly the same problem with my 1050 on Ubuntu 10.04 64bit with hplip 3.10.9.

Can you help with this problem?
