HP LaserJet P1102 error message: Binary plugin required

Asked by John Bester

I am trying to connect to a shared LaserJet P1102 (installed on Windows XP) from an Ubuntu 10.4 installation. I have installed the latest version of CUPS (as per instruction on HPLPOpensource.com) and the driver for HP Laserjet Professional P1102 is available, however, the "requires binary plugin" message appears when I try to print.

I have tried running hp-setup (as per message instruction) but it does not allow a setup to a windows share. Also, the printer is not recognized when trying to set it up as a USB printer (by connecting it directly). If all that is needed is a binary file, can you please email me the file and give me instructions on how to install it.

Problem solved - I rebooted the PC with the printer connected via USB and then hp-setup picked it up.
