I have an officejet 6500 series printer and it will not print from my computer. Everything else works. It tells me it's printing but nothing comes out. We just replaced the usb cable and it still won't work?

Asked by Carmela Helbling

Brand new printer. 6500 series. Fax works, copy works. It says it's printing but nothing happens. Bought a new usb cable and it still won't work. Checked all connections and everything is right. Help!

I am having the same problem Anitha. I am running Ubuntu 10.4 with an HP office jet 6500. (E709a) Only odd thing was right after it did its little set-up thing (IE self set-up for 10 minutes) I started printing. I got up for refreshments and when I came back about five minutes later, it no longer recognized the printer. I did what an HP/ linux site told me too and I installed the latest driver, but first I had to go into command line and install the installer. Done. I installed everything but no go. I went through a debug and something came up repeatedly about "dirty files."

I'm smarter than mayonnaise but I'm getting aggravated. Any assistance would be a HUGE help.

Hi Annette,

Please post your question in a new thread, and also provide us with your printer model and what exactly you need to do with the printer (and internet connection).

Thanks,
Suma

Ok Since I have originally posted my question I have found out a major item of concern. The CUPS DRIVER can not handle this type of printer. Those of you that can, should 1: Do your research through the forums and repositories as I did not. 2: Take the D@M thing back to the store and get one that the CUPS DRIVER will recognize. I was the fool that listened to some pimply faced kid tell me what UBUNTU will and will not recognize at the store and spent FIFTY dollars more than necessary.

If you want to run UBUNTU as your primary O.S. read read read up on your hardware compatibility.

As for checking an internet connection to your printer 1: make sure you have everything plugged in. 2: Go through the UBUNTU (I'm doing this from memory- bare with me) Applications and scroll down to the bottom for the UBUNTU devise download thing. From there you should be able to DL the proper Hardware to operate the Printer you are running as start up disks for UBUNTU are umm yeah. From there you should be able to get into the SOFTWARE to check all connections to ensure everything is running smooth. PLEASE keep in mind, if you are using a HP OFFICE JET 6500 and everything reads out as a proper hookup and (its says its working perfect) not working it's because your CUPS DRIVER FAILED!!!!!!!!!!! notice my aggravation. Upgrade all you want, I did. I just got a new printer, and went to the darkside MS7. What I did was drastic to say the least but my temper got the better of me.
