OfficeJet 6500: Printouts are all black from my Linux machine using hplip-3.10.2

Hello,

  Our OfficeJet 6500 works fine from our Windows machines but NOT from our Linux machines. From Linux our printouts are covered with black with some of the image barely detectable in other colors. Please advise. I am interested in buying other Hp printers but wont if we cant get this one to work with our Linux machines.
