Ubuntu Intrepid/CUPS/HPLIP: HP Laserjet Color 8550 DN is not printing jpeg pictures: E49.481E

Asked by Rubeosis

I have trouble using a HP Laserjet Color 8550DN on an Intrepid X64 workstation with CUPS and HPLIP. I am using the recommended PS driver HPLIP for the printer:

Printing of Text and Web-Pages works fine, but whenever I try to print jpeg files out of
- eog
- f-spot

the printer crashes with Error E49.481E (have to restart the printer).

/var/log/cups/error_log does not show any errors. Can I use other log-files in order to help to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance!

There are two similiar printing problems (one is opened by me):
- #405851
- #527593

I don't know whether it is useful to open a new bug in launchpad. I would be very appreciated if anyone could give me some information how to solve the problem systematically. I don't even know which package is actually causing the problem.

Thanks in advance.

I have today experienced the same problem myself this time with a pdf document which I was trying to print. There where three drivers available only two of which would install.

I was using a Ubuntu variant Mint for this, Version 8 which is Karmic Koala I opened a pdf document and tried both drivers that would install. The error is compounded by the fact that I need to reboot the printer a slow process at the best of times. the pdf document consisted of an eight page document which I intended to duplex, non duplex printing caused the same error but only on Linux

To rule out any problem with the printer itself or the pdf document I installed the windows PCL driver and choose duplex for printing on a windows PC the same pdf document was sent to the printer without any apparent error or requests to reboot.
