Printer on parallel port has been deactivated in a way

Asked by wolf4711

Hallo,

I have a heavy problem. I guess, I have catched a malware with OpenSuse 11.2. The HP Deskjet 610c printer worked fine until once, when I launched a print order, may be from GIMP, the yellow lamp began to blink and no print came. The printer only did load the paper and stopped then. There was no printer reset possible. When I after disconnecting and reconnecting the printer launched a new print order, I got the message "Device Communication Error".
It must be a printer and a HPLIP problem affecting the firmware.

To find out, what the problem is, I started hp-check -t.
hp-check displayed among others following messages:
Printer Paused: Drucker DESKJET_610C deaktiviert seit Do 11 Mär 2010 17:29:10 CET -
error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12): hp:/par/DESKJET_610C?device=/dev/parport0.
error: Device not found
error: Communication status: Failed

I found in "https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/95986" a similar problem described. So According to
http://hplipopensource.com/node/217

I changed in /etc/udev/rules.d/55-hpmud.rules the line: SUBSYSTEM=="ppdev", OWNER="root", GROUP="lp", MODE="0664"
on 3/27/2010 to: SUBSYSTEM=="ppdev", OWNER="lp", GROUP="lp", MODE="0666"
The printer is still inactive, while a message tells it has been activated. And the printer does not work even with Windows.

'hp-check -t' now displays among others following messages:

DESKJET_610C
------------
Type: Printer
Device URI: hp:/par/DESKJET_610C?device=/dev/parport0
PPD: /etc/cups/ppd/DESKJET_610C.ppd
PPD Description: HP Deskjet 610c, hpcups 3.9.8
Printer status: Drucker DESKJET_610C ist inaktiv. Aktiviert seit So 14 Mär 2010 19:03:06 CET
Communication status: Good

Launching a print order I get the message: „Fehler beim Drucken“, which means error.

By the way, the message „Printer status: Drucker DESKJET_610C ist inaktiv. Aktiviert seit So 14 Mär 2010 19:03:06 CET“ is contradictory and the date is wrong. I did my changes on 3/27/2010.

When I change /etc/udev/rules.d/55-hpmud.rules to the previous state, I get the error messages as above listed.

The printer was deactivated under Linux. So it is obvious, that it is no driver-problem.

My question is, how can I get the printer 'active' ???

Did you do a complete reboot (with power off
of the computer and the printer)?

Can you send a few bytes of plain text
directly to the printer as root using
  echo -en "\rHello\r\f" >/dev/lp0
See
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Installing_a_Printer

In any case, see
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/support.html
"run 'hp-check -t' and post the output"

By the way:
I guess that "ist inaktiv" is a translation error and
its actual meaning is what the English text would read:
"printer ... is idle. enabled since .."

As stated by you, the printer model does not work on even windows. I suspect some malfunctioning of your printer model and not a driver issue.

For product related issues or concerns please contact HP Total care from http://www.hp.com.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks,

A

Sehr geehrter Herr Meixner, vielen Dank für Ihre schnelle Antwort.

Einige Ihrer Fragen finden Sie schon in meiner Anfrage beantwortet.

I'll buy me a new printer, because hp gives no more faq-support.
