HP Photosmart 7760 on Open Suse 11.2

Hi,

Upon installing OpenSuse 11.2 and using the preinstalled HP Linux package that goes along with the installation, I find I cannot print anything to my HP Photosmart 7760 printer even though the HP Device Manager shows the 7700 series printer installed - HPLIP version 3.9.8. The specific error I'm getting for print jobs is "Device communication error Code 5012."

When I turn on the printer, the initial startup screen appears on the printer and stays on which is unusual, as it usually displays a ready to print message. Also unusual is the status says the print job completed when the printer is still stuck on the startup screen. Is this a problem with a old 32-bit HP 7700 series printer driver on a 64-bit OpenSuse 11.2 OS? Do I need to rollback to a previous HPLIP version or upgrade to a newer one?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regarding "Device communication error Code 5012"
have a look at
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=542473
to check if the rot cause is a permissions problem.
