cups admin looses printer

Asked by Grandpa49

photosmart C7280 wired ethernet attached
hplip 3.9.8
cups 1.3.11
opensuse 11.2

after installing hplip - both printer and fax show in hp device mgr and cups admin
print test page from either (both fail - no message )and cups admin no longer shows the printer just the fax

hp dev mgr sees both devices
hp-check only show the fax

I removed hplip & cups
installed cups 1.4.2
re-installed hplip 3.9.12 -installs 3.9.8 for this printer

test print results in :
cups queue reports stopped
"/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed"

symptoms changed still no print

A few more tries at test prints and cups admin no longer shows the printer
back to the beginning

I hope someone can help ?

Your printer model is supported with hplip 3.9.8 itself (that can be found in you distro repository.)

Can you please run the below command in a terminal window and share the output?
hp-check -t

Thanks,

Hi
Thank for the response. below is the info requested . I went through the drill again - deleted printers using hp dev. mgr. removed hplip rebooted

i noticed hplip 3.10.2 and installed it using hp install . so far it's working again and the cups admin still shows both printer and fax.. I've been able to print test pages and docs .

 If you see any clues in the hp-check listing that may be causing the disappearing printer please let me know;
f.y.i That install from the repo never worked correctly for me and judging from the Suse forums I''m not alone on that. Most reccomend using the hp installer
Thanks again

Thanks for sharing the output!

Configuration seems to be perfectly fine. Printer and fax queues are also reflecting as working with-out any issue.

however, it also shows warnings with respect to usb connection. It should not be a problem for you as you have added the printer via network.

Thanks,

A

I just discovered a new problem - duplex printing - the flip side is mirrored and unreadable do you need another incident ?
