Black replacement cartridge prints GREEN ?!?

Asked by manchot50

I have a 5 year old PSC1210. The black cartridge finally went dry, so replaced it with
a compatible but non-HP cartridge (56) that has always printed just fine through CUPS.

HPLIP reports the new black cartridge properly as full
(while the tricolor cartridge is nearly empty and is seen as nearly empty but still "good").

Problem is, it prints GREEN not black.

This is all with Debian Squeeze, HPLIP 3.9.12, hp-check -t reports nothing out of the ordinary.
Everything seems just hunky-dory, except my pages are bloody GREEN!
Do I have a black cartridge full of green ink or what??

The problem arose only when I changed the cartridge. Previously all was well, even though I don't think
HPLIP was actually installed.. at least I never saw it on my desktop. I did all installation through CUPS.

But now, I've fully installed HPLIP, and it allows me to clean the cartridge heads, and other things
that were not possible before. Hurrah. But it still prints GREEN! Dang!

hpcheck also tells me the printer is registered 3 times. Once as PSC_1200, once as PSC_1200_2 (identical)
and once as HP_psc_1200_series_USB_1 which it claims is NOT HPLIP installed. Indeed, it's hpijs/foomatic
Don't really kno why I have three there..

hpcheck also failed to find ~/hplip.conf -- indeed, root does NOT have such a file.

Latest weird news, python complains about a missing file when running hpcheck
Here is what I just found in my syslog:

I don't think any of the above is relevant to my green ink problem, but there it all is.
Can anybody explain what's going on ?

thanks in advance.

Clarification: I wrote:

Should have said that the printer worked fine before changing the cartridge.
The new cartridge has NEVER printed anything but green. HPLIP is not directly implicated here.
Perhaps not implicated at all.. but if you know anything related....

HP supports and recommends genuine original HP cartridges only. This problem has nothing to do with the printer or HPLIP. It purely seems to be an issue with your replacement cartridge. Please check with your vendor for the issue with your replacement cartridge.

Please use the following link to purchase original cartridges for your product from HP Official Store:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/supplies_model.do?product_code=Q1662A&aoid=5504&lang=en&cc=us

Thanks,
Adhir

They are cracking down on compatible cartridges. I bought a new compatible cartridge, and the printer (7350) refuses to print and blinks "cartridge not compatible".

Zatta.

Can you help with this problem?
