printer hangs after printing once (hp 7200)

Asked by Eduardo

I have a big problem with hp 7260. I can print once, but the next one i can't print nothing (it hangs). if i reboot my computer it works again, but i have to reboot to one print. I use archlinux 64, but this occur me since 3 years with all linux distributions. With Windows (xp) it works fine. I hope you can help me.

It seems disabled. If I reboot the printer (disconnect and reconnect) it can't be detected, although i reinstall in this moment the printer.

1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to
determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already
built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both
compile- and run-time dependencies).

Suggestion:

Please add the user to lp \ lpadmin group. After doing the same you might require restart of system.

Let me know if it solves your issue.

Thanks,

A

Thanks. My user is eduardo.

My /etc/group file:

lp::7:daemon,kde,eduardo
lpadmin:x:1001:eduardo

At first, when I installed Archlinux, I added my user to lp and lpadmin.
More information. In the same computer, with the same configuration, HP 710c and HP psc 1200 all-in-one work fine. Only HP 7260 doesn't work. It never works fine with linux (not only archlinux, ubuntu...), i don't know why.

Thanks for all.

Is there a problem existing with hpcups ppd on OpenSuse 11.2 with latest hplip ( 3.9.12)?

If yes, can you share the syslog of OpenSuse Linux distro. Also, post complete log of hp-check -t with latest hplip.

Thanks,

A

I didn't read all the details above but just noticed
"I can print once, but the next one i can't print"

This looks similar to our Novell/Suse bug report
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=462048
"USB printer fails after first printjob"
which is about a Photosmart 7700 series device.

Our issue ended up in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/344571
and there is waits since 2009-03-28...

By the way:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=462048#c23
may describe a possible workaround.

Hi. I don't how, and why but at this moment (I haven't tested in deep) It works fine. I have installed this afternoon Fedora 12 (64bits), and I have tested printer in that system. It have worked fine, but i thought there was a Fedora improvement in printer management. In opensuse, I have reinstalled printer with hpijs (3.9.8.36) and seems it work fine. In Archlinux, I have disabled usblp module from rc.conf (!usblp) and it seems to work, too.

In archlinux, i have had once the same problem (hang) when I have printed a test page from cups web interface, but only that.

Tomorrow, i'm going to test in deep. I hope problems have disappeared. If not, i will try with 3.9.12 in opensuse, and if not, I will report error information.

Thanks,
Greetings
