Unable to start queue with HPLIP 3.9.8

Asked by Rohn Shearer

I have HPLIP 3.9.8 installed on Mandriva 2010 with an HP Colorlaser CM1312nfi_MFP installed. I can submit print jobs, but they do not print. On the 'Printer Control' tab, it says that the queue is accepting jobs, but the queue is stopped. When I click the 'Start Printer' button, nothing happens. If I run hp-toolbox from the command line, when I click the 'Start Printer' button, I get the following message on the command line:

error: Start/Stop printer operation failed

Any ideas? Thanks

Here is the output of hp-check -t. I was looking through it & see there are missing dependencies. I am running Mandriva 2010. I tried downloading the tar & using the manual install according to the instructions on the website. I ran into issues with installing all the dependencies. I noticed in Mandriva's add software that they had this version of HPLIP. It seemed to install fine, but now I can't start the queue. Thanks

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

The issue seems to be because you have cups dependencies missing. All REQUIRED dependencies must be resolved for HPLIP to function properly.
Please delete all the print queues, uninstall HPLIP, and then install the latest HPLIP version 3.9.12 from http://hplipopensource.com/.

You can find the instruction to uninstall HPLIP at: http://hplipopensource.com/node/188

The instruction for manually installing HPLIP on Mandriva can be found at:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/mandriva.html

Let us know if this works fine with you.
Thanks,
~Adhir

I uninstalled hplip & tried to install the dependecies. I get the following result:

No package named cupsddk
No package named libdbus-1_3-devel
No package named libcryptopp5
No package named libcryptopp5-devel
No package named glibc-i18ndata-2.4-4mdk
No package named glibc_lsb-2.3.6-1mdk
No package named libusb0.1_4-devel
No package named sane-utils

When I installed on Mandriva 2009, there were a couple dependencies which did not install. I don't remember exactly which ones, I don't need the fax or local printer support, my printer is network attatched. Thanks

Hello Rohn Shearer,

Sorry for not being able to respond earlier, as we are kept busy by HPLIP release scheduled this week.

Your Mandriva repos might not be updated. You can try clearing the cache
su
rm -fv /var/cache/urpmi/mirrors.cache

then update system:
su
urpmi --auto-update -v

Alternatively, go to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org and follow the steps to setup the sources.

then execute the following command to install the required dependencies:
urpmi --auto cupsddk libdbus-1_3-devel libcryptopp5 libcryptopp5-devel glibc-i18ndata-2.4-4mdk glibc_lsb-2.3.6-1mdk libusb0.1_4-devel sane-utils

You can also search for the packages in the install software list, and install them. You can find it in System/Configure/Packaging.

Let us know if that works for you.

Thanks for your patience,
~Adhir

I had posted a question on Mandriva's forum asking why cupsddk-drivers was not in the repository. I was told to enable the Main Backport repository & that it would have HPLIP 3.9.12. I did this & have gotten it installed & working. Thanks for the help.
