debian hp-health package on DL180G6

Asked by Wouter Verhelst

Hi,

I've installed the hpacucli package on a customer's recently-acquired DL180G6. The system is running Debian.

When I tried installing the hp-health package, the following happened:

root@befs03:~# apt-get install hp-health
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  hp-health
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

root@befs03:~# apt-get install hp-health
Reading package lists... Done

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  hp-health
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Need to get 0 B/619 kB of archives.
After this operation, 1831 kB of additional disk space will be used.

Unpacking hp-health (from .../hp-health_8.5.0.1.2-2_amd64.deb) ...

Setting up hp-health (8.5.0.1.2-2) ...

invoke-rc.d: initscript hp-health, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing hp-health (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 hp-health

So we try removing it again:

root@befs03:~# dpkg --purge hp-health
(Reading database ... 37113 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing hp-health ...
ERROR: This Server is NOT Supported!
Error: No supported management controller found
invoke-rc.d: initscript hp-health, action "stop" failed.
dpkg: error processing hp-health (--purge):
subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
ERROR: This Server is NOT Supported!
Error: No supported management controller found
invoke-rc.d: initscript hp-health, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 hp-health
root@befs03:~#

While I can understand the inability to install on a server if it isn't supported, this inability to remove the package in that case is a bit ugly.

Also, the server has a UID light, which, since the hp-health package seems the only one to have the hpuid command, would seem to suggest that there should be a management controller and that the message about it not having a management controller may be in error (but I'm not sure about that one).

Thanks,

As you correctly noticed the PSPs are not enabled on the 1xx series. However that said, the packages shouldn't be limiting the freedom of choice value proposition of FOSS, so I'll look into that particular package and try to revise that check for an upcoming release of the deliverable.

Got the same error, found that if you install gawk it solves the problem because the DL180G6 is supported.

Many people who have had dental implants experience discomfort after the operation. <a href=https://www.amonghealth.com/dental-implant-pain/> dental implant pain</a> surgery intends to provide patients with a functional and attractive replacement for missing teeth, but it can also bring discomfort and pain if surgery is not done properly. even when there is nothing wrong with the implant itself.

The HP ProLiant DL180 G6 is a server model manufactured by Hewlett Packard (HP). However, as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the DL180 G6 is not officially supported by Debian. Therefore, there is no dedicated "hp-health" package available specifically for the DL180 G6 in the Debian repositories.

The "hp-health" package, or similar packages provided by HP, are typically designed to monitor and manage hardware components and health on supported HP server models. However, without official support, it may be challenging to find a specific package tailored for the DL180 G6 in the Debian ecosystem.

That being said, you might still be able to utilize some generic tools and utilities for monitoring hardware health on your DL180 G6 server, even if there is no dedicated package available. Here are a few options to consider:

lm-sensors: The "lm-sensors" package provides a framework and command-line tools for monitoring hardware sensors, including temperature, voltage, and fan speed. It may detect and provide information about certain hardware sensors on your server.

OpenIPMI: OpenIPMI is a collection of tools and libraries for managing and monitoring IPMI-enabled (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) devices. It allows you to access sensor data, control fans, and perform other management functions. Check if your server supports IPMI and install the relevant OpenIPMI packages.

Check manufacturer documentation: HP provides various management tools and utilities for their servers. Although the DL180 G6 is not officially supported by Debian, you can refer to HP's documentation and resources for server monitoring and management options specific to your model. HP's website or support portal might have relevant tools available for download.

Remember to exercise caution and ensure compatibility when installing any third-party tools or utilities on your server. It's recommended to consult the documentation and support resources provided by HP for the DL180 G6 to find the most suitable options for hardware monitoring and management.
