Preferences: inherit also original date & show rules hint

Hi,
Can you explain me these 2 settings preferably with an example
1 Transaction > inherit also original date
2 Tree view > show rules hint
Toggling on/off I don't see a change in the GUI. As for 2, Where is the Tree view?

1) when you inherit a transaction multiple times, by default the date reset to today's date.
If you toggle this option, the date is reverted to source transaction each time

2) this depends on the theme you uses, it alternate line background in every treeview.
