Bank Account website URL option

Asked by Lindsay Lorden

Each account can be configured with a website URL. I have found that this field can also open an Excel spreadsheet (for example). I'm using this 'feature' to process the CSV output from "All Transactions" just before I close Homebank. Saves having to create a shortcut elsewhere in Windows to open Excel.
Probably not an intended ability, just an accidental consequence. However I do like this ability so hopefully it won't disappear in the future!

My question is: What (at least on Windows) is the action being run by the program when one clicks on the "open the URL" browse button? I can launch a filename using "C:\folderpath1\folderpath2\spreadsheet.XLSM", or open an exe. What other abilities might there be?

Help only states the field is an "optional website you may want to add....". Clearly that is the intention, but I have discovered another useful be it undocumented use for the field.

Aliraza (aliraza41306): Pity you knowingly post advertisements for totally unrelated topics on this website. Lock smithing has *nothing* to do with personal finance record keeping.

I'm sure all of us who use it properly do not appreciate it and, if we lived anywhere near where you're advertising would probably henceforth avoid the business (at least after checking in some way that they aren't aware you posted this).

Please don't do this again; definitely not appreciated by genuine HomeBank users.
